Postdoctoral Researcher in Mathematics

The Faculty of the Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University consists of 38 employees, distributed across three divisions: mathematics, mathematical statistics, and computational mathematics.

The Department of Mathematics conducts research in a variety of fields within mathematics, such as algebraic geometry and algebraic topology, complex analysis, logic, mathematical physics, operator theory, partial differential equations, representation theory, and number theory.

Project Description

The position is funded by Wushi Goldring's grant from the Swedish Research Council and/or the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. We welcome applicants working in arithmetic geometry and/or representation theory in a broad sense and more specifically:

• applicants interested in collaborating with Wushi Goldring on applications of group theory, particularly reductive groups
• candidates working within the Langlands program, Shimura varieties, flag varieties, and/or reductive groups, such as Coxeter groups or Kac-Moody groups.

Responsibilities

The main responsibility is to conduct research. The position may include some teaching (up to 20%), including supervision. The applicant is expected to participate in the department's activities, particularly by attending and contributing talks to the logic group's seminar.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible for the position as a postdoctoral researcher, a PhD degree or a foreign degree assessed to be equivalent to a relevant PhD is required. The degree must be obtained by the time the employment decision is made.

Assessment Criteria

It is advantageous if the PhD or equivalent has been obtained no more than three years prior to the application deadline. If there are special reasons, an earlier obtained degree may also be considered advantageous. Special reasons refer to leave due to illness, parental leave, trust assignments within trade unions, service in the total defense, or other similar circumstances, as well as clinical service or relevant service/assignments for the subject area.

In the appointment, particular emphasis will be placed on scientific competence in the areas mentioned above.

About the Position

The position is full-time and is permanent, but for at least two years and at most three years, with the possibility of extension if there are special reasons. Start date is 2026-04-01 or by agreement.
